Sweden: Proposal to raise the age of recruitment of officers by 70 years

Sweden will have to increase the age of recruitment of former officers from the 47s today at 70 years, according to a government -appointed committee as part of efforts to strengthen Stockholm’s defensive potential in the midst of the worsening security environment. “The need of the Swedish Armed Forces for officers justifies the extension of the military service, regardless of alarm level, for those who have previously served as professional or reserve officers,” the committee said. If this change is approved, former officers up to 70 years of age could be invited to serve in case of need.
