The man who died in the shooting incident at the Emporia shopping center in Malmo, southern Sweden, is believed to have been the target of the attack, the city’s police said today.
“Currently, everything leads us to believe that this particular man was the target of this execution,” Malmö police chief Petra Stenkula said during a press conference.
One person was also injured in the shooting, which occurred late Friday afternoon. This is a woman who is hospitalized in serious condition and who was just passing by at the time, according to the police.
A 15-year-old teenager was arrested Friday as a suspect in the shooting. Police consider the attack “an isolated incident linked to criminal circles” and rule out a terrorist motive, a Malmo police spokesman told AFP at the time.
A few weeks before the elections in Sweden, crime has become one of the main issues of public debate at the national level.
