Three people were injured by gunfire during heavy clashes today in the town of Norrkoping in southwestern Sweden between security forces and protesters protesting against the organization of the far right involved in burning the Koran, Swedish police said.
“The police fired warning shots. “Three people appear to have been hit by bullets that were fired and are being treated,” police said in a statement, adding that the three, whose condition is unknown, were “under arrest on suspicion of criminal activity.”
This is the second time in four days that such clashes have taken place in Norrkπινping.
For the first time, protesters were protesting against the gathering of the anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim “Hard Line” movement of the Danish-Swedish Rasmus Palundan.
Today, protesters were protesting against another “Hard Line” rally, which was eventually canceled by Rasmus Paludan.
The Dane-Swede intends to run in the Swedish parliamentary elections in September, but has not yet collected the required signatures to run. He is currently touring Sweden and visiting Muslim neighborhoods to burn the Koran.
In 2019, Rasmus Paludan, who has been convicted of racist insults, had tried his luck in the elections in Denmark, where he failed to collect even 10,000 votes.
