The fire, which appears to have started in a refrigerated lorry, broke out in the garage of the Stena Scandica, which was on a route from Sweden to Latvia.

The fire has been brought under control.”Lisa Mjorning, spokeswoman for the Swedish port authorities, told AFP and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

“It’s a limited one fire, which is centered around a refrigerated truck in the garage,” Stefan Elfström, a spokesman for the company that operates the ship, told AFP. “It appears the fire started from the truck,” he said.

Three helicopters and seven boats have been sent to the scene. About 240 passengers are on board, with 50 to 60 crew members.

There are no reports of injuries at this time, after the alarm was raised around 12:30 local time (13:30 Greek time).

“It’s mostly smoke, and the amount of smoke has been greatly reduced,” according to Elfstrom.
