The Swedish government said on Wednesday it would increase defense spending by $ 318.17 million this year as it seeks to speed up rearmament after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The result will be that we can strengthen our capacity in Gotland, increase the number of military personnel, increase the supply of fuel and ammunition, vital supplies, and that we can boost the supply of equipment and vehicles,” she told the Swedish TV Secretary of Defense Peter Hultqvist.
Last week the government said it would increase the military budget to 2% of GDP as soon as possible and was discussing with opposition parties how to speed up the process.
