Seven states are on red alert for a heat wave issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul are under a “Great Danger” warning until the end of this Thursday afternoon (09).
These states have been on alert since Monday morning (06), with temperatures 5 °C above the average for the period, posing a health risk.
São Paulo also has another part of the region on yellow alert for the heat in force during the same period. In the capital of São Paulo, thermometers surpassed the 32 °C mark: three days ago the city broke successive records for May in more than 80 years, according to ClimaTempo.
Alagoas and Sergipe are also on red alert, due to accumulated rainfall and Rio Grande do Sul, due to the risk of storms. Amazonas, Bahia, Pará, Pernambuco, Roraima, Amapá, Pernambuco and Santa Catarina are on alert for the heat wave.
