Instead of the classic “little green man”, the so -called “Gregory”, the pedestrians now see a figure of a woman kicking a football ball before crossing the road. The city authorities placed 12 such special lanterns in hubs that gather fans, near the football stadium and the Central Railway Station. “They will stay until the end of the Women’s Euro-maybe a few days longer,” said Basel Transport spokesman Nicole Ryf-Stocker. As he explained, the plan and the idea belong to the Department of Civil Engineering of St. Galen, while the traffic lights were manufactured by the same company that supplies Basel’s signaling systems. “It seemed to us a great idea and they allowed us to use it,” he added.
