Switzerland: Maria Antoinette diamond bracelets surpass seven million euros at auction

A pair of diamond bracelets that belonged to her queen France, Marie Antoinette, sold at auction in Switzerland for the amount of 7.06 million euros, at a price much higher than the pre-sale estimates, became known by the house Christie’s.

THE Rahul Kandakia, its international director Christie’s for jewelry, who took over the auction, said during the sale process that the bracelets had remained in the family for almost 200 years. The buyer submitted his offer by phone and has not been disclosed.

The sale price rose to 5,8 millions euro, but with the various commissions and taxes, the final price was set at 7,06 millions euro, explained her spokeswoman Christie’s, Alexandra Kiderman. The final amount is more than double what the house expected to receive for the bracelets.

Placed in a blue velvet case that writes “Bracelets of Queen Marie Antoinette”, the double bracelets, which consist of three rows of diamonds, count a total of 112 diamonds.

THE Marie Antoinette, who sent a letter from prison Tuileries in the Paris, where she revealed that a wooden chest of jewelry would be sent for safekeeping, was executed in the guillotine in 1793. Her daughter Marie Teresa received the jewelry upon her arrival in Austria, the auction house explained.
