Police in the Swiss canton of Geneva will procure military equipment during the Biden-Putin summit, scheduled for June 16, the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper reported today, citing police.
The Swiss newspaper points out that the police practice of renting military equipment from the Swiss army is nothing new and has happened a few times in recent years.
According to a police spokesman quoted by the newspaper, law enforcement will supply “a large number” of armored vehicles ahead of the summit.
It will be announced next week whether the army will be officially sent to Geneva, as happened during the 2014 peace summit on Syria in Montreux, the report added.
The decision will be made by the Swiss Federal Council.
The Russian president at the Geneva summit Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden will meet for the first time up close after the swearing in of the latter.
