More than 500 kilograms of cocaine were found by the Swiss authorities in a container with coffee beans destined for a Nespresso factory in Romνn, western Switzerland.
According to the police, Nespresso informed on Monday night that the employees of its factory found an unspecified amount of white substance during the unloading of bags with coffee beans that had just arrived from Brazil. Laboratory analysis showed that it was cocaine.
A search of five other containers that had arrived the same day followed, which led to the seizure of more than 500 kilos of the drug.
According to police, the cocaine seized was “pure” at more than 80% and its estimated value is 50 million Swiss francs (48 million euros). “It appears that the drugs were destined for the European market,” according to police.
“This substance has not come into contact with any of our products or equipment we use,” Nespresso said in a statement, reassuring the public that “all of our products are safe to use and consume.”
