SXSW 2024 has special programming for LGBT audiences; check out

Between the 8th and 16th of March, the city of Austin, in the US state of Texas, hosts South by Southwest, better known as SXSW, considered one of the biggest technology, music, innovation and culture events in the world.

The fair is aimed at global professionals and offers a wide range of activities such as lecture sessions, varied presentations, film and TV product screenings, networking opportunities, technology competitions, awards ceremonies and much more.

The 2024 edition even has an agenda full of attractions aimed at the LGBTQIAP+ publicwith lectures and parties.

11th Annual Big Queer Kickoff Party

The event that was once an unofficial gathering of the queer community during SXSW is now the festival's official party. The goal is to celebrate Austin's queer culture.

The party takes place on Friday (8), from 6pm to midnight local time, at Rain On 4th, a nightclub in the city.

Drag Queen Brigitte Bandit Dishes on the 1A

Drag queen Brigitte Bandit talks about how she used the First Amendment, which talks about freedom of expression, to challenge restrictions on drag. The event is free, will feature complimentary drinks and will take place on Saturday (9), from 7pm to 8pm.

Human Rights Campaign Happy Hour!

The event will be a happy hour with Kelley Robinson, present from Human Rights Campaigning, the largest group defending LGBT civil rights in the United States. It will be on Sunday (10), at the Austin Convention Center.

The Power of LGBTQ+ Creators that Hollywood Can't Replicate

The panel, which will take place from 4pm to 5pm on March 12th at the Austin Convention Center, will discuss the need to include more happy stories about the queer population in Hollywood, the impact of LGBTQIAP+ creators, what the industry can learn from them and how brands can support.

Defending Democracy: LGBTQ Activism and Power in 2024

The panel will address the defense of democracy from a queer and trans perspective, bringing together theory and practice. The event will be free, will take place at the Hilton Austin Downtown, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday (9), and will highlight attacks on the LGBTQIAP+ population as a symptom of the democratic crisis.

LGBTQIA+ Health Justice: Culturally Affirming Care

Experts will discuss how to pursue the right to health of the LGBTQIAP+ population and how Austin's affirmative health model promotes changes in the city's reality. The panel will be at the Austin Marriott Downtown and will take place on March 11th, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Responsible Reporting on Anti-Trans Violence for Journalists

The event will bring together experts to explore strategies for reporting on violence against trans people with sensitivity and accuracy. The idea is to provide tools to cover traumatic events responsibly.

The panel will take place on Friday (8), from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Austin Convention Center.

The Rebirth of Pride Night in American Professional Sports

The event will discuss the reduction of Pride Nights, events that celebrate and recognize LGBTAIP+ culture, in North American professional sports. The panel will be at the Four Seasons, on March 11th, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Inclusive Tech – Technology of Tomorrow: Born Inclusive

Focusing on the intersection of technology and inclusion, the session will debate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning and discuss whether technology is truly born inclusive. The event will be at the Hilton Austin Downtown, on Sunday (10), from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Culture Catalysts: Transforming Representation in TV & Film

The event brings together experts from GLAAD, The League and other entities to talk about the representation of immigrants, the LGBTQIAP+ community and people of color in the industry. The panel will be at the Austin Convention Center, on March 11th, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
