South by Southwest, better known as SXSW, is halfway through its duration and is already collecting a set of reports that point out what the future of technology will be like in various aspects.
The festival is considered one of the biggest technology, music, innovation and culture events in the world, also bringing attractions from different countries. The event takes place in Austin, in the US state of Texas.
There, three very relevant reports have been presented so far: MIT showed what had the biggest impact on global technology in the last year, futurist Amy Webb brought the main trends in the area for 2024 and video game expert Joost van Dreunen brought predictions to the gaming world.
Check out a summary of each below:
MIT: 10 Technologies that will change the world
Artificial intelligence (AI) was the technology that appeared first in Massachusetts Institute of Technology list.
“It’s no surprise that we see AI on the list. 2023 has already been a very busy year for AI. We are now at a time where the public is directly interacting with AI, consciously experimenting, using generative AI to make images,” said Bramson-Boudreau.

- Artificial intelligence
- New solar cells
- Apple Vision Pro
- Weight loss medications
- Geothermal Energy Systems
- Chiplets
- Gene editing treatment
- Exascale computers
- heat pumps
- Twitter “Killers”
Amy Webb: future of technology
The 17th edition of Tech Trends Report from the Future Today Institute, chaired by futurist Amy Webb, brings almost 900 trends in technology that will reign in 2024.
Below, the CNN brings some highlights from the report:
Artificial intelligence
For Amy Webb, after the so-called LLM (Large Language Models), we will increasingly see what she calls Large Action Models, which are devices that will allow artificial intelligence to recognize and learn from our actions. Devices like Apple Vision Pro are already part of this reality.
AI is also present in the search and discovery of information and an example that uses this technology is ChatGPT, from OpenAI.
Mobility, robots and drones
Consumers are adapting to electric and semi-autonomous vehicles and those that collect more and more data.
At the same time battery technology is increasing, allowing vehicles, robots and drones to perform longer, the rise of these machines suggests a future where they complement and even replace human tasks.
Healthcare and Medicine
Another subject that will also be on the agenda is the barrier between digital and biological, which is gradually disappearing. The fusion between the two worlds allows for a new range of treatments, such as cells within our body that can produce medicines in response to external stimuli.
Joost van Dreunen: news in the world of games
Joost van Dreunen's reportacademic and entrepreneur, specialist in video games, shows that in the coming years there will be a change in the concept of games from products/services to platforms.
- A traditional approach sales in games until now was to sell as many units as possible at the highest price, as in the cases of Zelda and Uncharted.
- There was also the approach of live services (so-called “forever games”) in multiplayer games, such as Pokémon Go and League of Legends.
- The next step is to consider games as platforms , which extend beyond the game. The idea is a mix of online and offline activities, as in the cases of Fortnite and Roblox.
The idea of games as a platform means creating several actions with consumers: play, watch, connect, create and collect.
According to the report, one of the next trends is multiplayer games — no one wants to play alone anymore.
The document also points out that industry leadership has changed in recent years between publishers and gatekeepers. If in 2000 Sony and Nintendo reigned, now they compete for space with Tencent, Apple and Google.
