Synolakis at WSJ for the deadly floods in Texas: A series of omissions brought the tragedy

Titled “A FLOOD of Failures in Texas”, Professor and internationally renowned natural disaster experts, Costas Synolakis, signs a Wall Street Journal an article-catapult, highlighting the chain of omissions, weaknesses and delayed political decisions. Central Texas’ Flash Flood Alley was converted into a nightmare on July 4th. The Guadeloupe River overwhelmed by more than 8 meters in less than an hour, destroying houses, camps and entire communities in Ker and Kendal counties. One week after the disaster, more than 160 people are missing, and over 100 are the dead, including 28 children.
