Syria: Cham Wings Airlines suspends flights to Minsk

Syrian private airline Cham Wings Airlines announced today that it is suspending flights to Minsk at a time when thousands of migrants and refugees, mostly Syrians, are stranded on the border between Belarus and Poland.

“Due to the difficult situation on the Belarus-Poland border, and because the majority of the passengers on our flights to Minsk are Syrian nationals, we have decided to cancel our flights” to the Belarusian capital from Saturday “(today),” because “We can not distinguish between migrants and others,” the company said in a statement.

M. Schoinas: “The company’s decision is correct”

The Vice President of the Commission, Margaritis Schoinas, spoke about the “right decision”, referring to the announcement of Cham Wings Airlines.

In particular, in a post on Twitter, Mr. Schoinas states:

“It’s the right decision.

It is a humanitarian imperative to stop people falling victim to the instrumentalization of organized trade by Belarus.

“This follows the wise decision of the Turkish civil aviation authority and the assurances I received from our partners in the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon.”
