Israeli attack in the area of Damascus, its capital Syriaresulted in the death of two civilians and material damage, Syrian state media reported, citing a source close to Bashar al-Assad’s armed forces.
A Syrian army official, however, assured that “Our anti-aircraft defense shot down most Israeli missiles” launched earlier.
After the war in Syria broke out in 2011, the Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes, almost from the air, against positions of the Syrian government’s armed forces as well as their allies, the Iranian and pro-Iranian armed factions, in particular the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah. The Israeli authorities often say that they will not allow Iran, a sworn enemy of the Jewish state, to build a bridgehead on Syrian territory.
Israeli raids seem to be getting even faster this year. In late February, at least six Syrian regime fighters were killed in Israeli strikes near Damascus.
