Syria today signed an energy deal of $ 7 billion with a US, Qatar and Turkey consortium to restore its electricity -destroyed electricity sector. The agreement was signed at the Damascus Presidential Palace, in the presence of transitional President Ahmed al -Sarah and the US special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak. According to the Syrian authorities, the plan provides for the production of 5,000 megawatts to meet about 50% of the country’s electricity needs.
