Three Syrian soldiers were killed and three wounded today by Israeli strikes, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported.
“The Israeli enemy carried out a strike with several rockets (…) targeting locations around Damascus. This coincides with another attack, which targeted positions south of (province) Tartous,” on the coast, after the explosions heard there. Three soldiers were killed and three wounded,” the agency said, citing a military source.
The Syrian air force was facing “hostile targets” in the skies over Tartous and the Qalamoun mountains near the border with Lebanon, according to Syrian state media.
The media also reported that the attack was carried out by Israeli planes from the territory of Lebanon.
The Israeli military declined to comment on reports of a possible attack on Syria.
Israel has for years carried out strikes against Iranian or Iranian-backed targets in Syria, where Tehran has deployed forces in support of President Bashar al-Assad since the country’s war began in 2011.
The first ship to leave Ukraine under an agreement to resume grain exports from the country two weeks ago is approaching the Syrian port of Tartus today, two shipping sources told Reuters earlier.
