A Syrian military operation against allies of the deposed president, Bashar Al-Assad, was completed, said the country’s Ministry of Defense on Monday (10) after the most intense fighting since the former rebeldes took power three months ago.
The clashes between Assad’s supporters and the country’s new Islamic rulers in the former president’s coastal region killed more than a thousand people, mostly civilians, according to a war monitoring group.
Violence has increased concerns about the course of Syria, where former release under the command of Ahmed Al-Sharaa, leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, are trying to unify a divided country while dealing with the involvement of powerful neighbors.
Since the overthrow of Assad, groups supported by Türkiye have clashed with the Kurdish forces that control much of Northeast Syria.
Israel attacked separately military facilities in the country and is lobbying with the United States to keep the territory weak, sources told Reuters.
Hassan Abdul Ghany, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, said in a statement on social network X that public institutions can now resume work and provide services.
“We are preparing the way for life to return to normal and for the consolidation of security and stability,” said Abdul Ghany.
He added that there are plans to continue fighting the remnants of the former government and eliminate any future threats.
Sharaa promised on Sunday (9) hunting the authors of the violent confrontations and exclaimed that he will hold anyone who exceeds the authority of the new rulers.
Al-Sharaa’s office also stated that it was forming an independent committee to investigate the clashes and the deaths committed on both sides.
