SYRIZA: A. Tsipras and scenarios of a technocratic government – Bra de fer on party changes

By Niki Zorba

A weekend of “extroversion” was what passed for Alexis Tsipras and SYRIZA, at least in the sense that with their public interventions the president of the party and the internal party minority (Umbrella), “opened” their papers on issues concerning themselves and each other. .

In a full-length interview given by the president of SYRIZA to Sunday Dawn, he first took a position – of course opposite – in the scenarios that saw the light of day in the previous days about a technocratic government in Greece.

Scenarios that were loudly refuted by the Commission, but the refutation did not “stifle” the relevant scenario.

Tsipras: The prime ministers are elected by the people

The leader of the official opposition, however, openly condemned them, rejecting them. A scenario of a technocratic government with an unelected prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, and SYRIZA will not be supported.

“In no case do these scenarios concern SYRIZA – PS. Look, Brussels is not the modern palace. They can not shape the political developments in any country, without the verdict of the people”, said Mr. Tsipras precisely in his interview yesterday, “closing” the topic: “The first and the last word in a democracy is the sovereign people. They decide the governments and the prime ministers. And in democracies there are no deadlocks. That is why we prefer it as imperative. need to resort to the popular crisis as soon as possible “.

Mr Tsipras, however, took full account of Brussels’ dissatisfaction with the government, saying he “understood” it because, as he puts it, “there is now a serious risk to what we have achieved in recent years, fiscal stability. transparency in public finances, social cohesion, to go head to head “.

Bra de fer for the changes in SYRIZA

In the meantime, the bra de fer of Alexis Tsipras with the internal party minority “Umbrella”, which reacts to his proposals for the election of president and Central Committee by the members of SYRIZA, is in full swing at the level of public debate. for the conference.

The president of SYRIZA rejects Umbrella’s accusations that with his proposals the accountability in the party is abolished and the promotion of executives in the JV will be done in terms of “star system” (key point that Nikos Filis had publicly expressed), stating in the same interview that :

1. I do not believe in the privilege of the few to choose with more correct criteria than the many who do not know. And if they “do not know”, it is the duty of all of us on the left to know. as the nobles knew, who had until then had this privilege.

2. I do not understand why a Central Committee elected by a congress that meets every four years is more accountable to party members than a Central Committee elected directly by the members. We have to be accountable to the members of the party, and in fact every day, not to their representatives.

3. So when we understand that we have to open up with confidence in society, does it not make sense to have to trust the party members for all the serious issues, and for the election of the leadership?

P. Skourletis: Constructed dilemmas

From a public stand, the newspaper “Epochi”, the Panos Skourletis a parliamentary representative of SYRIZA but also one of the leading members of the Umbrella, “lifts” the presidential glove, on behalf of Tasi, following the pre-conference text issued on Friday by Umbrella with “no” to Alexis Tsipras.

Regarding the ongoing internal party debate, Mr. Skourletis notes, among other things:

1. We can not be happy with our own dynamics. We need more coherence in the conduct of our policy and greater clarity at our peaks. I think we missed the opportunity to delve into the account of the government period. This deep political process would be the best guide for a more convincing and dynamic opposition. It would signal to the world that we have learned from our mistakes.

2. The hypothesis of enlargement has been replaced by unhistorical and fabricated dilemmas that have worked divisively.

3. The different approach to the issue of the election of the president and the CoE. relates precisely to the simultaneous belief that the political debate in the top conference process should not be disconnected from the election of leadership, nor should we overlook the issue of accountability. We want the members not only as a number in a register, but as daily participants in shaping the basic policies and positions of the party. “Disposable” members fit the models of systemic parties, not us.
