SYRIZA and Pandemic: Special Purpose Permits – N. Bisti Peaks for ‘Covid Opposition’

By Niki Zorba

SYRIZA is escalating its attacks on the Government on the Pandemic on a daily basis, with the main demand: Support those affected and a basic complaint: You have no intention of financially assisting society and for this you choose the method: Herd immunity.

In short, Koumoundourou on a daily basis requests the opening of the state corps to deal with this new wave with the invasion of Omicron.

Gradually, he did the same with regard to the issue of school opening. Yesterday, through Nasos Iliopoulos, the request for granting of special purpose licenses to working parents of children who test positive (approximately 16,000 identified the required self-tests to return to classes).

Obviously costly proposal which is not for the time being at least in the intentions of the government, hence SYRIZA submitted it. To put even more pressure on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, aiming at the complete deconstruction of his prime ministerial profile as a capable manager of the critical challenges that have arisen during the years of his rule. This was, after all, the main goal of Koumoundourou from the first moment that ND took the helm of the country.

The failures and setbacks of the government in managing the pandemic after the excellent performance it recorded in the first wave, was the opportunity that the official opposition party would not miss for its main goal: They did not prove to be good managers, their purpose is to dry up the big private interests.

This is, after all, SYRIZA’s reflection on all government actions.

“After two years of tragic management and utter failure, with the country breaking every negative European record of cases and deaths every day, it chooses herd immunity and whoever survives. “Mitsotakis is now optimistic about the ‘last month.’ With his decisions, he is now acting as an ally of the pandemic.”

Mandatory Extension and Covid Opposition

However, there is no change in SYRIZA’s positions on the obligation of vaccination and to new categories of citizens. The scenarios that bring the government to directly consider the extension of the obligation to those over fifty years old, have the same treatment by Koumoundourou: No to compulsory vaccination on a fine.

Does everyone in SYRIZA agree with this management? No. Nikos Bistis, one of the “allies”, for example, referring to an article by Elias Mosialos in EFSYN, states, among other things:

1. “I believe that for a long time the political forces of the country had to agree on the generalization of the obligation, applying of course the principle of proportionality to the consequences for the unvaccinated.”

2. “Obligation raises difficult issues of choices between the protection of public health and individual rights. In my opinion, the protection of the collective interest takes precedence over individual choices, especially when individual choices adversely affect the public interest and the well-being of a society.” .

3. Now I’m afraid it ‘s too late. We got lost in the midst of non-existent success stories, in the last consecutive miles and the covid opposition.
