SYRIZA for Mitsotaki-Erdogan meeting: The need for a structured national strategy in Greek-Turkish is imperative

“We expect official information from the Government for today’s meeting in Istanbul and especially for the conditions set for the organization of the Supreme Cooperation Council and for the strengthening of energy cooperation”, SYRIZA-PS states in its announcement for the meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the President of Turkey R.T. Erdogan.

SYRIZA-PS recalls that “for over a year now” it has been calling on the Government to abandon procrastinating diplomacy and to take advantage of both the US change of government and the EU-Turkey negotiations for a revised customs union, in order to commit the neighbor to a meaningful dialogue, with clear red lines, to reduce the intensity, with the ultimate goal of resorting to The Hague for continental shelf / EEZ “.

“The internal contradictions in the SW and the erroneous theory of the supposedly isolated Turkey, have resulted in this dialogue being conducted today with a long delay and at a time when Turkey is rapidly upgrading its international and regional role,” he added.

SYRIZA-PS states that “even under these conditions it is positive for the communication channels to be opened at the highest level”. “However,” he added, “these meetings should result in a steady reduction in tensions and not just be another opportunity for Turkey to further strengthen its international image until the next crisis.”

Finally, the official opposition states that “in any case, the need for a structured national strategy in Greek-Turkish is imperative.”
