SYRIZA: Opposition restart after the early ones were burned

By Niki Zorba

SYRIZA is in a “semi-rest” position regarding its central planning, at least for the next 10-15 days, until the end of August 15th.

Alexis Tsipras took his summer family vacation early this year (he is in Lisbon, from where he returns next Wednesday), while the central executives of Koumoundourou will gradually be on a few days’ leave in the coming days.

Rastoni

The order of the president of SYRIZA that everyone should have returned to their posts by the middle of August, the one that was given before the scenario of the autumn ballot was finally burned (?), has not been formally lifted, but, since the pre-election planning has things are going backwards, that is, there is no rush for absolute readiness until the beginning of September, the “system” in Koumoundourou is apparently starting to relax.

Ballot papers have been made clear for days, as “K” reported in its previous paper, that SYRIZA does not intend to announce during the summer, while the Parliament is closed, “stormy” parliamentary battles, which the official opposition seeks, among them indeed they are excluded.

What is left for SYRIZA in the next few weeks and until the preparations for Alexis Tsipras’ visit to the TIF begin? To keep the main axes of his opposition agenda high at the level of statements and interventions of his executives. Insistence on a sharp opposition speech on everyday issues, with a focus on accuracy, and a full attack on the government on issues concerning the “rule of law”, transparency, etc.

In the meantime, at the mercy of fires, SYRIZA will continue to aim for the overthrow of the government with complaints about “unprecedented management inadequacy” and “arrogance” of the prime minister and Maximos. Barring a shocking contingency, this is the pattern in which Koumundourou will move in the month of August ‒ unless it is confirmed another summer (absolutely inevitable) that Umberto Eco was completely wrong in his aphorism that there is no news in August.

Pressure

The pressure on the government – at a slower pace now – is clear that it will have the character of an overall questioning of its effectiveness, but, regardless of the “one-front” fight they have rhetorically declared in the ND, the pressure will not come out the PASOK-KINAL of Nikos Androulakis.

The opinion polls – at least as far as PASOK-KINAL is concerned – do not deter Koumundourou, but the pressure on the leadership of the neighboring party will continue unabated (with varying degrees of tension and rhetorical outbursts), with the obvious aim of attracting PASOK voters to SYRIZA, under the slogan “This government must go”.

They estimate, moreover, that the longer the elections are delayed, the more the dilemma will intensify that will squeeze PASOK and especially its traditional voters for a useful vote in order not to re-elect the ruling party.

In general, they are betting that, as a result of time and months, there will be… an anti-SYRIZA front from the reverse (anti-N.D.), which will certainly favor Kyriakos Mitsotakis as well as the official opposition leader , squeezing Harilaou Trikoupi.

The case of the complaint of Nikos Androulakis for an attempt to monitor his mobile phone is by no means a coincidence that it received such a promotion from the friends close to the SYRIZA media: It absolutely “connects” with the general atmosphere of “difficult” that the leadership of Koumoundourou is trying to impart to the governance of the country.

Although, SYRIZA has made the complaints of Mr. Androulakis a “flag”, there is no shortage of points from its top executives about how PASOK has acted on this issue so far, concluding that – by now and probably until the first Election Sunday – investing in a partnership with Harilaou Trikoupi, even at the level of an opposition alliance, is impossible.
