SYRIZA: Political Council for the future of Dawn – Under the microscope, accuracy

By Niki Zorba

The Political Council of SYRIZA is meeting today for the future of Avgi, following it yesterday’s meeting of the Political Center (of the “coffee” group) under Alexis Tsipras, which took place with the exclusive agenda of the fate of the party newspaper.

The volunteer program announced by SYRIZA at the end of November did not succeed, as it is said that only 14 employees showed interest – a percentage that is significantly lower than the goals set by the administration in order to make the circulation of the leaflet sustainable.

Voluntary or suspension

At yesterday’s meeting under the president of SYRIZA, the atmosphere was heavy and it was agreed – not unanimously – that if the volunteer plan does not go ahead, then the only way is to suspend the daily newspaper of Avgi.

SYRIZA party sources in informal information yesterday after the meeting of the Political Center, they went on the counterattack, noting that there is an urgent need to reduce the cost of Dawn, which is directed to 72% of the state funding received by the party.

“We will not take money” for the health of the suckers “. 28 salaries, the viability of the newspaper as a whole and not just the daily newspaper, is at stake.

At yesterday’s meeting, in addition to the suggestion of the administration that proposed the suspension of the daily newspaper, opinions were heard on an alternative plan that will include only redundancies of redundant staff. A sentence that did not “walk”.

Accuracy

In Koumoundourou, the issue of accuracy in goods and energy is now being raised beyond the pandemic.

In this context, from now on they put back more intensively on the agenda their proposals for:

– Immediate increase of the minimum wage to 800 euros to protect disposable income and stimulate consumption.

– Abolition of performance fee and abolition of solidarity contribution up to 40,000 euros.

Reduction of excise duty on heating oil by 93%, on diesel by 20% and on petrol by 50%. That is, a reduction to the lower permissible European levels

– Reduction of PPC tariffs in order to attract both private providers, and exhaustive controls by the Competition Commission.

– Immediate treatment of the debt of households and businesses that has been created during the pandemic period in accordance with the write-offs of part of it and a long extension of the repayment time for the small and medium-sized businesses to breathe.

– Extraordinary income support for farmers and people of culture.

SYRIZA sources, in fact, regarding the Energy support measures recently announced by the government, characterize them as “below the needs”, adding: How much more the latest announcements that reduce by 15% the subsidy of household electricity tariffs in relation to with the previous month. With regard to businesses, after 5 months of increases, the government remembered to set a subsidy on commercial electricity tariffs, which does not cover the huge burden that has long been borne by hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises and farmers. The subsidy for gas bills is equally insufficient, when based on November inflation the increase in its price was 181%.
