In its announcement, SYRIZA states:
“The unacceptably incomplete lawsuit of the government from the beginning undermines the recognition of the crime by the company, in contrast to what happened in the US, which also involved responsibilities for acts of corruption, including politicians.
In fact, while the specific lawsuit is being filed, the prosecutors, on whose investigation any procedure against Novartis will be based, are accused of alleged conspiracy and fabrication of a scandal and it is proposed to refer them to the Special Court. The same goes for the former minister, Dimitris Papagelopoulos.
It is therefore clear that with this lawsuit the government is not seeking to repay the billions of euros with which public funds were damaged due to government manipulations. “On the contrary, what he is doing is throwing ashes in the eyes of the people, at a time when Mr. Mitsotakis is questioning the scandal itself – despite the fact that Novartis in the US has admitted corruption in Greece.”
Concluding, he notes: “The lawsuit filed with a huge delay today is another episode of the operation to cover up the scandal and the reason for closing this pending case, under the weight of the coming revelations and the pressure of the Greek public opinion”.
