SYRIZA: Spells for the Eye – National plan and doubling of benefits

By Niki Zorba

For Alexis Tsipras and SYRIZA, criticizing the government for the fires neither last year nor this year is an easy task. On the contrary, lurking in every opposition turn, the collective trauma of the murderous fire in Mati that provokes reflexive comparisons (but also “aided” apparently, by his political opponents).

The Eye remains a fading wound in our national memory no doubt, festering ever-present for the official opposition party which has completely (and necessarily) resigned itself to the realization that there is nothing it can say or do to throw off the deadly stain on level of political responsibilities. Hence, since last year, since the devastating fires in Attica, Mr. Tsipras has been following a defensive tactic on the issue of fires, which revolves around the admission: Unspeakable tragedy and mistakes in management but it was politically instrumentalized against us.

Koumoundourou’s “counterattack” goes as far as that. He does not ask for the “changes”, that is, as for example with the issue of the Prespa Agreement, which he claws at the ND for how he opposed the SYRIZA government at that time.

Alexis Tsipras did the same yesterday while visiting, having recovered from the corona virus, Drafi and Pendeli, who are counting wounds.

“No tragedy of the past can be an alibi for the present and the future,” was his reference referring directly to the Eye, avoiding even naming it.

Compensation and national plan

Moreover, in the last few weeks, the criticism of the government on almost all economic and political issues has been a personal attack on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, based on the lack of empathy.

“Mr. Mitsotakis appears not to feel the problems of the citizens, he lives in his own world, indifferent to their lifeless everyday life and dependent on big business interests”. In this statement of his partners the opposition “strategy” of the party towards the prime minister is condensed.

This is also the reason why it did not surprise anyone Mr. Tsipras’ complaint against Mr. Mitsotakis from his tour in Drafi and Pallini that he “triumphs” over the apokaides.

From then on, the president of SYRIZA spoke about the fires, among other things:

1. It is necessary to realize that in the face of this National danger, a National plan and national vigilance are needed.

2. Recognition of the magnitude of the problem and the inability of the state machinery to deal with it is required.

3. It takes a plan, it takes vigilance. And above all at this time, with unity and like-mindedness, let us face an ongoing dangerous reality for natural wealth and human life.

4. To double (s.s. Mr. Mitsotakis) the compensations because precision has made any compensations provided for such disasters insufficient.
