The truce between SYRIZA and the N.D lasted for a few hours thanks to the fire in Penteli. Initially, the party had charted a communication route similar to the one it followed during last year’s devastating fires in Parnitha: Low tension, the priority is assistance in dealing with the danger and helping those affected by the fire.
The “line” changed and the tones were raised, with the first statements of the responsible minister Christos Stylianidis and later with the remarks of the Prime Minister himself. Criticism boiled down to: Arrogants who admire themselves above the apokaides, deficiencies in firefighting and prevention.
SYRIZA’s initial announcement was addressed to Mr. Stylianidis whom it grosso modo called out for inadequacy and provocation.
“… The responsible minister came out in front of the apocaides to congratulate himself. He could not find a convincing explanation for why the residents are trying to save their properties without help or why the police are operating on the fire fronts, after the 3500 organic gaps firefighters, and even with… watering stations”, said Koumoundourou, among other things.
Immediately after the prime minister’s statements, the press representative, Nasos Iliopoulos, received the baton in the same spirit:
“K. Mitsotakis appeared to continue the crescendo of arrogance and self-admiration of the government. The government succeeded, Penteli burned.
While houses are still burning in Attica, with the number of houses destroyed so far unknown, he did not hesitate to say that the damage is limited”, he said, concluding with the same:
“Without shame, K. Mitsotakis admits not only his inadequacy but also the gap with the reality that ordinary citizens of the country live”.
Plans in the air due to Covid
In the meantime yesterday and while it was decided after a meeting in Koumoundourou to postpone due to the fire the event planned for tonight by SYRIZA with speaker Alexis Tsipras on the rule of law, on the occasion of the anniversary of the restoration of the Republic, it was announced by the president himself of the party how he was diagnosed positive for the coronavirus for second time.
(Mr. Tsipras was diagnosed positive for the first time last January).
A development which de facto blows up the official opposition’s program, at least for the next few days.
It is recalled that as Capital.gr reported in its publication yesterday: “The party, not only does not hesitate to identify with the “uprising” of various people against Lignadis, but further escalates its attack on the government on the case: With direct points and insinuations that it supports him but also other – possibly – initiatives that according to information, Alexis Tsipras is “in the works”, for the next few days and they concern Justice”.
