SYRIZA: The ‘no’ of the internal party opposition to A. Tsipras with peaks

By Niki Zorba

A text in the context of the pre-conference dialogue in view of the SYRIZA congress on April 14-17 was submitted by the internal party opposition (Umbrella – internal minority, as she clarifies) which publicly reflects her disagreement with the proposal of Alexis Tsipros for election SYRIZA central committee by party members.

The text is also full of peaks about how the majority (presidents) are on the way to the conference, talking about “a conference of fruitless controversies, clashes of mechanisms and clearing of accounts, which leave indifferent or even repel society”.

“Umbrella” in its text incorporates the constant criticism expressed by “53” for the transformation of SYRIZA into a “supermarket party”, with appointed leaders, groups with special privileges, organizationally amorphous and with vague boundaries between members and friends.

Specifically, this text refers to the “yes and no” of the Tendency towards the leadership:

The “Yes” and the “No”

“Yes” to a unifying, democratic conference with promotional compositions, as we achieved at the Panhellenic Conference in July.
“Yes” to a conference of democratic dialogue, with an exchange of arguments.
“Yes” to an open and large party of the modern European Left of the 21st century, the backbone of the wider progressive faction. “No” to a supermarket party, with appointed leaders, teams with special privileges, organizationally amorphous and with vague boundaries between members and friends.
“Yes” to the continuous strengthening and expansion of SYRIZA-PS. To build a massive, popular party of the Left, with strong foundations and presence everywhere in society, Local Government and Trade Unions. With a stronger presence of women and the young generation at all levels With equal members without special privileges or divisions based on origin or years of service “No” to the return from the window to SYRIZA of the components, with members with special privileges and different speeds. “No” to the perpetuation of ex-officio leaders through the proposed National Council, a body that is simply not needed, as it only adds extra party bureaucracy.
“Yes” to unity, democratic collectivity, dialogue and synthesis. “No” to outdated leadership models that do not fit into a modern left-wing European party. We propose that the President of the Party continue to be elected by the Congress of the Party and be accountable to the Central Committee.
“Yes” to the open streams of ideas that contribute to the collective reflection of the united party and are bound by its collective decisions.
“Yes” to the election of the Central Committee of SYRIZA-PS by the Congress to which it owes and is accountable, as has been the case since our establishment. Socialist and wider democratic parties in Europe and around the world.
