“After Mr. Tasoulas delayed for four months to bring to the Parliament the proposal of the President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Alexis Tsipras, for the establishment of a parliamentary consultation and accountability committee for the funds of the Recovery Fund and the NSRF 2021-2027, finally the ND decided to reject it,” SYRIZA states in a statement, adding that:
“Obviously, they had taken this decision from the very first moment when the specific proposal was submitted. However, Mr. Tasoula’s decision to bring it at the end of July in secret shows that the Mitsotakis government is doing everything possible to get its attitude out in the open, for which there are not many arguments to support”.
In the same announcement, Koumoundourou emphasizes that:
“At a time when the Greek economy and the majority of citizens are groaning from the unprecedented wave of precision, the Mitsotakis government declares that it does not want transparency in the management of resources, because it earmarks them for the few large business families of the country. The government does not want Mitsotakis that there be guarantees for their safe, socially just and nationally beneficial utilization, especially when these European programs exceed the term of office of one government and corresponding initiatives have also existed at the level of the European Parliament and are considered “good practice”.
Finally, SYRIZA calls on “the parties of the progressive space to support the proposal of Alexis Tsipras, based on article 118 of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, to amend the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament by adding a relevant provision to article 44 which will provide for the establishment of a “Parliamentary Committee Consultation and Accountability for the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and for the NSRF 2021-2027″. At a time when the Right is again choosing the path of opacity and waste of public money, it is time for everyone to take a stand. Will they support transparency or Will they tolerate opacity? Will they choose the path of accountability or partisan expediency? Will they advance the public interest or turn a blind eye to the few business families waiting to share the funds?”
