T. Theodorikakos: The police have made 140 arrests for animal abuse in the last five months

Police have also made 140 arrests and fined 940 euros, totaling 1.3m euros.

“I put so much emphasis on this particular incident because I believe that if we want to tackle the problems associated with violence – and of course violence against animals – there must be cooperation between the state and the police and the citizens, in the society “, Mr. Theodorikakos noted and added:” Yesterday, everyone saw, through social media, the video with some people, who behaved in a torturous and provocative way towards an animal, towards a kitten. They mobilized, I congratulate them and thank them because by raising the issue, all citizens today have been given the opportunity to learn that there is a law that protects animals and is against animal cruelty. “The law is strict. The Minister of Civil Protection stressed that the job of the police is to control the implementation of laws and added that the behavior towards animals is a matter of education, humanity, culture, while the interesting element is that – as the statistics prove – the people who treat animals with violence and treat people with violence, especially in the family.

Regarding the 30-year-old who was arrested, Mr. Theodorikakos pointed out: “He was arrested five years ago for a significant amount of drugs and was sentenced to prison and now he wanted to break his violent instincts in this way in an animal. He is being held and today he will be taken “The sentences he will face will depend on exactly what charge the prosecution will impose on him, but the law – in general – is strict in the most severe cases, it has room for very high fines and several years in prison.” .
