Tahrir Square receives hundreds of people protesting in support of Palestine; Egyptian police remove protesters

Hundreds of people protested in support of the Palestinians this Friday (20), near Tahrir Square, in the center of Cairo, Egypt, as journalists from the CNN .

The protesters spread out across an entire block and rounded a corner. Tahrir, an important public square in the region, has been a hotspot for protests in Egypt.

Riot police then pushed the crowd from the entrance to Tahrir Square into nearby Bab El Luk Square and closed off access to the initial protest site with security forces, a journalist from the CNN .

People also shouted, “With our soul and our blood we will redeem you, Aqsa,” a pro-Palestinian rallying cry that references the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City, one of the most revered sites in Islam. and in Judaism.

Since the radical Islamic group Hamas attacked Israel and the Israelis responded with airstrikes, protests in defense of Palestine have taken place in different places around the world.

Political parties and institutions aligned with the Egyptian government called for nationwide demonstrations in support of the Palestinians, an episode that comes as a surprise after a decade of strict anti-protest laws.
