Taikonauts inside the “Sacred Boat” flew to the new Chinese space station: video

On June 17, at 04:22 am Kiev time, the Shenzhou-12 (神舟 十一 号) spacecraft with three taikonauts on board was successfully launched in the direction of the Chinese space station under construction.

The launch was carried out on a Long March-2F Y12 rocket (长征 二号 F 火箭) from the site of the largest China Jiuquan cosmodrome, which is located in the north of the country near the border of Mongolia.

On the trajectory to the KKS are 56-year-old ship commander Nie Haisheng, 54-year-old pilot-operator Liu Boming and 45-year-old research laboratory assistant Tang Hongbo. This is the commander’s third flight into space (earlier in 2005 and 2013), the operator’s second (2008), the scientist is flying for the first time.

For three months they will monitor the parameters of the operation of the spacecraft, continue to assemble the station and go into outer space.

The assembly process of the China Space Station (天和) from three modules will take about a year, it will take 11 launches. It will be placed at altitudes up to 450 km. The country will use KKS for about 15 years as an astrophysical and biomedical laboratory, as well as for other tasks. Since, for geopolitical reasons, the PRC is prohibited from working on the International Space Station project, Beijing has to develop its own programs, which they consistently do there.

Within six months, another cargo spacecraft and one manned spacecraft will be sent to the KKS orbit.
