Taillights not working: Tesla had to recall 321 thousand cars due to a bug in the software

Modern cars are quite complex mechanisms with many smart features, advanced technologies and software at the level of smartphones or tablets. Accordingly, as with any complex electronics, cars may not work as they should, especially when it comes to electric cars that consist entirely of this same electronics. It is this misfortune that overtook Tesla, which, due to malfunctioning brake lights, has to recall an insane number of electric vehicles for software updates and maintenance at its own expense.

Yesterday, November 20, Reuters, citing its sources, reported that the world’s largest electric car manufacturer is forced to recall 321,000 electric cars due to a software glitch that prevents the vehicle’s rear lights from doing their job properly. And although it may seem to many that this is not such a problem, in fact, this malfunction in theory can lead to serious accidents on the road – for example, if the driver slows down on the highway, and the brake lights do not notify the motorist who is behind in row. Yes, and in the conditions of the city limits, accidents can also happen, since not everyone knows how to keep their distance.

Surprisingly, quite fresh cars with new firmware fell under the recall campaign – we are talking about the Model 3 of 2023 and the Model Y from 2020 to 2023. At the same time, it’s probably not worth panicking the owners of an electric car – although the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced an increased risk of collisions on the roads, especially at night, Tesla itself noted that there were no reports of injuries or accidents, that occurred due to this failure have not been reported. However, the owners of these cars should take care of maintenance.

To do this, you won’t even need to go to a service center and wait for the master to manually update the firmware and fix the problem – the company’s specialists promised to release a software update over a wireless connection, so that all cars that could potentially have problems with brake lights , will receive an update “by air”. But, of course, I would like Tesla to invest a little more resources in quality control – this is far from the manufacturer’s first recall campaign for the current year, which means that the build quality and software of the brand are at a rather low level. Even Chinese brands do not have such problems.
