Taiwan’s defense ministry said at least 20 Chinese air force fighters had entered the so-called Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) following the arrival of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which has fueled tensions between Beijing and Washington.
“21 Chinese military aircraft (…) entered the ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone) over southwestern Taiwan on August 2, 2022,” Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said in a tweet.
Earlier, Taiwan’s foreign ministry had dismissed as “false” Chinese media reports that Su-35 fighter jets had flown over the sea area separating the island from mainland China.
China’s armed forces have been put on high alert and will launch “targeted military operations” in response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China’s defense ministry said today.
