Taiwan: High school students trained to shoot due to Chinese threat – They set up a shooting range at a school

High school in Taiwan recently decided to open a shooting range for air rifles arms and at the same time began to train them students of using various types of firearms in an effort to teach minors to “defending themselves” with the shadow of China’s threat looming over the region.

More specifically, San Min High School claims that in this way “helps students learn about Integrated Defense, a concept designed to help the country prepare for conflict. After all, national security issues are issues that concern us all”.

Integrated Defense is about the combination of civilian and military resources to protect national security. This includes civilians learning first aid techniques, studying military equipment, participating in drills and learning to use different types of firearms.

The shooting range is open to San Min High School students, as well as students from other schools upon request. Military instructors are present to help students practice marksmanship.

This way of teaching students about defense comes after China’s recent air and naval drills that simulated the siege of Taiwan.

Taiwan has never been part of the People’s Republic of China, but the mainland’s ruling Communist Party insists the island is bound to unite with China, by force if necessary.

Beijing has threatened to attack if Taiwan formally declares independence or delays reunification talks.
