Taiwan: Official leading missile production found dead

The deputy head of Taiwan’s defense ministry’s research and development unit was found dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning, according to the official Central News Agency, as reported by Reuters.

Ou Yang Li-hsing, deputy head of the military-owned Chung-Shan National Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning, CNA reported. He said authorities are investigating the cause of death.

Ou Yang was on a business trip to southern Pingtung County, CNA reported, adding that he had taken up the position earlier this year to oversee various missile production projects.

The military-owned agency is working to more than double its annual missile production capacity to nearly 500 this year as the island bolsters its combat power amid the “rising military threat from China.”
