Taiwanese companies have to slow down chip development

Taiwanese chip companies, including MediaTek, continue to face limited capabilities for manufacturing partners, especially when it comes to delivering products using advanced manufacturing processes. In these conditions, they are forced to slow down the development of new products.

Industry sources report that TSMC’s 5nm production lines are fully loaded – mostly with orders from overseas customers. To somehow improve the situation, the manufacturer presented several updated versions of its 7nm technology platform, focusing on a good price-performance ratio.

As a result, MediaTek decided to use TSMC’s 6nm process technology for the newly unveiled Dimensity 1200 and 1100 SoCs so as not to compete with other customers for the ability to use the 5nm process technology. Now the turn for it is such that companies have to postpone the release of some new products at the end of the year.
