Take-Two bought the developer of social games Zynga: in the piggy bank to Rockstar and Codemasters

Recently, major video game publishers have been actively buying studios and entire companies, expanding their portfolios – last year Microsoft made several large acquisitions, and now it’s time for Take-Two. The giant in the computer video game market today, January 10, officially announced that it has made an impressive step towards social and mobile projects by paying (completion of the deal is scheduled for June 2022) for the acquisition of the largest company in this field, Zynga, an impressive amount of $ 12.7 billion. This, according to experts, will allow the publisher to release mobile games for their popular franchises, saving impressive resources.

The fact is that at the moment Take-Two already owns the world-famous studios Rockstar Games, Codemasters and 2K, being the largest publisher of computer and console video games in the world. Accordingly, the ability to use Zynga’s resources to release mobile or browser games for well-known franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption or Bioshock should significantly simplify the development process and lower the publisher’s end costs. The company is already talking about the fact that the acquisition of Zynga will save $ 100 million on development within two years from the date of the deal.

Zynga itself is known not so much for mobile games for Android and iOS (they are developed by subsidiary studios), as for games on social networks. For example, FarmVille had 75 million active Facebook users in 2010, and Words with Friends, released in 2009, is one of the most popular games on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network. However, what exactly Zynga employees will be doing under the wing of the new owner has not yet been reported – even the news about mobile versions of Take-Two games is unofficial.
