Taliban attack in northwestern Pakistan – At least six soldiers killed

At least six Pakistani soldiers were killed today in an attack earlier on at their military base in the northwest of the country bordering Afghanistan, the army said. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

“During heavy exchanges of fire, six soldiers, after fighting valiantly, fell as witnesses,” the Pakistani military said in a statement.

“Other soldiers responded effectively, encircling and killing the three terrorists, thus preventing them from entering the military compound,” he added.

The Taliban Movement in Pakistan (Tehrik-i-Taliban), a movement different from that of the new leaders in Afghanistan, but which has common roots, claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place in the city of Tank (northwest).

The Tehreek-e-Taliban claimed in a statement that they had killed or wounded more than 30 Pakistani soldiers. The movement generally tends to exaggerate its number of attacks, while the Pakistani military’s communications services often minimize losses or delay communication.
