Taliban: Demand generosity from US after $ 1.2 billion from UN

The Taliban welcomed today (14/9) the $ 1.2 billion aid pledged by the international community to the Afghanistan and urged the US to show more generosity.

“We thank and welcome the international community for its commitment of about $ 1 billion in aid and we urge it to continue its assistance to Afghanistan,” said Amir Khan Mutaki, the acting foreign minister of the new Afghan government.

“America is a great country, it must show generosity.” he added, during a press conference, as broadcast by APE-MPE.

The United States yesterday pledged $ 64 million to humanitarian organizations working in Afghanistan as part of a UN initiative. By comparison, Washington spent $ 2 trillion in the 20 years of the Afghan conflict.

“The Islamic Emirate,” the Taliban’s name for Afghanistan, has helped the United States facilitate its evacuation operations. “But instead of thanking them, they are talking about imposing sanctions on our people.”

The United Nations announced yesterday that donor countries had pledged $ 1.2 billion in aid to Afghanistan, but did not specify how much would be earmarked for emergency aid.

“The Islamic Emirate,” said the new Afghan foreign minister, “will do its best to provide this assistance to those in need in a completely transparent manner.”
