Tanker truck overturns, spills fuel and blocks road in Minas Gerais

A tanker truck loaded with 15,000 liters of fuel (containing diesel, gasoline and ethanol) overturned at around 4 am this Monday (1st) on Via Expressa, near BR-040, on the border between the cities of Belo Horizonte and Contagem, in Minas Gerais. There were no reports of injuries.

According to the Fire Department, the driver of the truck stated that the GPS would have indicated that he made a turn that took him to a vacant lot, which caused the truck to go out of control and tip over.

As a result of the tip, the trailer became detached from the mechanical horse and almost half of the load leaked. Around 7,000 liters of fuel were spilled.

Three vehicles and 12 firefighters were involved in the incident. The runway was completely closed due to the application of foam by the corporation to prevent fires and explosions.

The Fire Department also provided a type of dike to prevent the fuel from falling into the Arrudas River, as there are three storm drains at the accident site, which flow into the Ribeirão.
