Operation Acalento arrested this Wednesday (13) 53 people accused of crimes against children and adolescents, such as physical and sexual assaults. Civil Police officers from the Federal District and 25 states carried out arrest, search and seizure warrants.
The action began on June 13 and ended this Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Justice, during the whole period, 1,224 people were arrested accused of committing violence against minors.
In one month of action, 14,000 victims were treated, according to the federal government.
“States have done a great job of tracking down these criminals who have worked surreptitiously inside their homes. This pedagogical character of the action of the whole society in the fight against crime against this type of vulnerable, which are our children, is very important”, says Braulio de Melo, assistant secretary of the Secretariat of Integrated Operations.
This was the second phase of Operation Acalento. The first was held last year, after the death of four-year-old Henry Borel. The child suffered aggression from her stepfather, the former councilor for Rio de Janeiro, Doctor Jairinho.
