In drafting a bill that will criminalize the public display of Nazi symbols (eg swastika) the Tasmanian government is moving forward, following in the footsteps of other states Australia.
Her Minister of Justice TasmaniaElise Archer, explained in a statement that will make it a criminal offense to display Nazi symbols for inciting “hatred and fear”but not when used for historical or educational purposes.
He talked about “Violation of Community and ethical standards” of the state.
According to the minister, the “most appropriate options” are being considered to implement the measure and there will be a public consultation on the issue.
Victoria became the first Australian state to criminalize the public display of the Nazi swastika with a bill passed by the local parliament in May, while the same is true in New South Wales and Queensland.
