Tassios (POX): The average occupancy of hotels in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas does not exceed 50% -60%

They have nothing to do with the reality that the Greek hotelier faces every day, publications with overly optimistic forecasts in view of Christmas, as the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers, Grigoris Tassios, emphasizes in a statement.

At the moment, the data available to POX from all its hotel associations throughout Greece on the occupancy of urban hotels in Athens, Thessaloniki and provincial cities, are disappointing, says Mr. Tassios and goes on to say the following:

“At the same time, the average occupancy in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas nationwide – although we have already entered December – does not even exceed 50% -60%, with the exception of some more popular destinations and areas with theme parks that record slightly higher mobility.”

In any case, the hoteliers of the country place their hopes in the last minute reservations and consider very important the fact that our country has not entered into a lockdown type regime, which would be a disaster for tourism, explains the Mr. Tassios.

For the president of POX, the winter period lasts 120 days and for these companies only a good 15 days are not enough, in order to be able to cover huge losses of 18 months.

Finally, Mr. Tassios reminds that the tourist traffic is recorded based on the data of legally licensed companies and talks about the absolute “stuff” that prevails in the market of short-term rental and illegal accommodation, which, as he emphasizes, blurs the real picture and creates illusions of tourist recovery.
