Cyprus will not be a Greek island, the Turkish-occupied northern part of the island, Ersin Tatar, said on Tuesday, reiterating that Turkish Cypriots would not relinquish their supposed right to an equal and sovereign state, as evidenced by Turkish practices and .
Speaking to the “Turkish Agency of Cyprus (TAK)” on the anniversary of the start of the EOKA struggle, Tatar attacked the Cypriots, whom he criticized for the words that, as he said, showed the approval of the EOKA acts, which the Turks characterize terrorist organisation.
“If you continue to repeat the rhetoric of 1821 and give messages to satisfy circles in favor of Greece, then I doubt your good will,” Tatar said.
Stressing that the Turkish side has always supported peace, Tatar said that the pseudo-state is seeking an agreement based on goodwill and a consensus in the Eastern Mediterranean that takes into account law and justice.
Tatar also stressed that hydrocarbon resources in the Eastern Mediterranean have become even more important due to the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriots are on Turkey’s side and a balancing factor in the Eastern Mediterranean, Tatar said the pseudo-state would not abandon Turkey’s guarantee.
Tatar reminded that Ioannis Papameletiou, Greek ambassador to Cyprus, expressed that no solution can be found on the island until the Turkish guarantee is canceled and the Turkish army withdraws: “We have practiced and will continue to practice our policy so that there is a an environment and an agreement on the basis of equality, where the Turkish presence will continue to the end, where peace, tranquility and security can best be maintained with Turkey as a guarantor. ”
