Tatar: No one guarantees that there will be no more war in Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said that there is no question of recognition of the “Republic of Cyprus” by Turkey and that for Turkey there are two separate peoples in Cyprus, two states with equal sovereignty and that its policy is in this direction.

Speaking to the local TAK news agency of the occupiers, Tatar said that the war in Ukraine has shocked the international community but proves that history repeats itself and that no one can guarantee that a war in Cyprus like 1974 will not be repeated.

He went on to say that the UN Security Council should take into account that after the elections in the pseudo-state there was no longer any talk of a federation and decide to recognize the sovereign equality and international status of the Turkish Cypriots. He claimed that the Turkish Cypriots were expelled from the Republic of Cyprus by force of arms in 1960 and that everyone knew the intentions of the Greek Cypriots and Greece.

Stating that there are “serious differences between the federation understood by the Greek Cypriot side and the federation understood by the Turkish side in Cyprus”, Tatar said that “the understanding of the Greek side is to turn Cyprus into a single state, to abolish its guarantor “Turkey, to bring it to the point with zero army and zero guarantees.”

He reiterated that an agreement in Cyprus can only exist on the basis of two separate states living side by side.

Noting that the proposals presented at the 5 + 1 meeting in April 2021 are the joint official policy of the pseudo-state and Turkey, Tatar also said that there is no discussion about taking steps back from this point.
