Taxis emit SOS, ask for immediate financial support, otherwise increases in fares

By Fotis Fotinos

Ή direct financial support or increases in fares. Taxis and in particular, the Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union (SATA) sent a letter to Deputy Minister of Transport Michalis Papadopoulos, requesting the implementation of specific measures to support the industry.

Taxi owners, after listing the difficulties they face from rising fuel prices, ask the following:

-Immediate financial support of 300 euros per vehicle / month for as long as the energy crisis lasts.

-Reduction of VAT on fuels from 24% to 13% for the duration of the energy crisis.

-Reduction of EFK from 0.7 euros / liter to 0.5 euros / liter.

Are there any increases in taxi fares?

If they do not adopt the above measures, taxi owners note that the increase in tariffs / fares is a “one way”, proposing, among other things, the following price increases:

Fare category

Existing price

New suggested price

Flag drop

1.19 euros

2.50 euros

Invoice No. 1 (single tariff)

0.68 euros

0.82 euros

Invoice No. 2 (double tariff)

1.19 euros

1.19 euros

Minimum Route

3.16 euros

4.00 euros

Airport – Center

35 euros

40.00 euros

Airport – Center (double fare)

49 euros

55.00 euros

“For the taxi industry, this price rally is a risk to its viability. After two years of downtime due to the health crisis, the taxi is on the verge of bankruptcy.

The easiest thing for us would be to demand a fare adjustment that will result in an increase in our operating costs for taxi users. But it would be completely unfair.

Our proposal for dealing with the energy-economic crisis cannot be anti-social. “You as a government must give the solution and not the Greek society”, states, among others, SATA.

SATA met a few days ago with the Deputy Minister of Transport Michalis Papadopoulos, who replied that their requests are being evaluated and that he will return within 15 days.
