The singer Taylor Swift added, on Sunday (14), a new unprecedented mark to the list of records in the music charts that it boasts. His most recent album, “The Tortured Poets Department”, reached the 12th consecutive week atop the Billboard 200 and became the album by a female artist that stayed at the top the longest after its release .
Until last week, “Tortured Poets” shared the record with “Whitney,” Whitney Houston’s debut album that featured hits like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “So Emotional.” The album featuring the singer of “Style” and “Cruel Summer” has remained at the top of the main album chart in the United States since its release on April 19.
Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album is now tied with two albums by men who have also topped the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks after its release: Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” and Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life.” If the singer’s latest release holds onto the top spot next week, it will hold the record alone.
Billboard, however, points out that only six albums debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 until 1991, when the magazine began using Luminate data as a reference. Albums by Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston are among them.
With Sunday’s update, Taylor extended her record among solo artists and has now spent 81 weeks at the top of the main US album chart, adding up all her albums. Above them are only the Beatles, who have spent 132 weeks.
