Taylor Swift is geeks’ favorite artist, says survey

The Geek Power survey, carried out by the Omelete Company and the cultural support of Go Gamers, showed that the Taylor Swift She was considered the best artist by geeks and nerds. Some data were released this Tuesday (28) in CCXP23 Unlock – a special and exclusive edition for guests before the Comic Con Experience.

The survey interviewed more than 20 thousand people and was carried out online. The objective was to map and profile people who consider themselves geeks in Brazil. Questions were asked about series, music and films, in addition to recording the preferences and profile of Brazilian nerds.

According to the responses, Taylor Swift was considered the “best artist of 2023”. Beyoncé and Coldplay also appeared on the list.

Favorite films, series and books

The survey also traced the preference among film, series and book geeks. Among film fans, the favorite genre is action: it was mentioned by 70% of those interviewed. Next comes science fiction with 43% and comedy with 40%.

Among series fans, the top three remained the same: action (78%), science fiction (60%) and comedy (53%).

For those who prefer comics, the favorite genre is heroes, with 80% of mentions. Next are the adventure genre (62%) and action (50%).

Respondents were also asked about their favorite 2023 premieres and which productions they are most looking forward to.

Profile of geeks and nerds in Brazil

The research also outlined the profile of nerds in Brazil. If we were to describe a geek, he would be male (51.8%), straight (80%), southeastern or northeastern (67.6%), white (53.3%) and single (43.6%), in addition to of being between 22 and 39 years old (55%).

According to the research, 20% have a different sexual orientation – such as bisexuality, homosexuality, etc.; 42.5% are black; and 52% have completed higher education or postgraduate studies.

According to the study, 72.4% of the public who identify themselves as geeks are from classes B and C.

The passions of the geek world

According to the survey, 42.5% of respondents reported that they are more passionate about films, while 18.6% responded to series. Music comes in third place, with 11.6% of preference.

Among the geeks who answered the questionnaire, 7.8% are otakus – that is, they reported a preference for anime and manga. Right behind are gamers, with 7.5%. Lastly, there are those with a preference for reading: books (6.1%) and comic books (4.7%).

When the breakdown is by age, the youngest people, aged 16 to 21, prefer anime and manga. The oldest, over 40, are those with a preference for comics.

When analyzing information by genre, women prefer series, books and music, while men prefer films and games.

Among the habits of each category, most anime and manga fans have a passion for cosplay – dressing up as their favorite characters. According to the survey, 39.2% of otaku geeks perform cosplay. Among comic book fans, 70.8% collect objects related to the theme, such as collectible figures. Gamers are more active online: among them, 69.4% follow content creators who talk about the topic of interest, such as people who broadcast live online games.
