Taylor Swift ties Jay-Z for new “Tortured Poets Department” record

O “Tortured Poets Department” 11th studio album by Taylor Swift , never tires of guaranteeing records for the singer. This Sunday (28), the album reached a new historic feat by making its debut in first place on the Billboard 200 albums chart (list that classifies the 200 best-selling albums in the United States). With that, the pop star tied with the rapper Jay-Z such as artist with the most number ones in history among solo singers.

It is worth noting that only the band Beatles with 19 number 1s, have more than both.

“The Tortured Poets Department” sold 2.61 million units in week ending April 25th. Sales of downloadable digital albums, CDs, vinyl LPs and cassettes.

Of this number of sales, vinyl sales represent more than 850 thousand. Taylor also broke a record in this regard, breaking her own record for best-selling albums in a single day, with 700,000 copies.

Taylor Swift thanked Billboard for the record on social media.

“My mind exploded. I'm completely shocked by the love you've shown for this album. 2.6 million, IS THIS SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming and welcoming 'Tortured Poets' into your life. Feeling so loved,” wrote Taylor Swift.

Other records

Taylor Swift broke a few other records with “The Tortured Poets Department.” In less than 24 hours after its debut, it became the most listened to album on its debut day on the streaming platforms Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify.

On Spotify, Taylor Swift also broke the records for most listened to artist in one day and most listened to song in one day, with “Fortnight”, in partnership with Post Malone.

“The Tortured Poets Department” also sold 1.5 million copies in the US in its first three days. With those numbers alone, the album recorded the highest first-week sales of any album since Adele's “25” nearly 3.4 million copies in one week in 2015.
