Taylor Swift wins Songwriter of the Year at the BMI Pop Awards

Singer Taylor Swift won the Songwriter of the Year category at the BMI Pop Awards, which took place on Tuesday (4) at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, in Beverly Hills, in the US state of California.

Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) is a performance rights organization that collects fees from companies that use music in the United States and distributes the money raised to songwriters and music publishers. In its catalog are names like Rihanna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift herself.

The North American wrote ten of BMI’s most performed songs in 2023. They are:

Benny Blanco, Selena Gomez’s boyfriend, received the main prize at Tuesday’s ceremony, the “President’s Award”. He is the songwriter behind hits like “Diamonds” by Rihanna, “Circus” by Britney Spears, and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. He has won 55 BMI Awards, four of them in the Songwriter of the Year category.

The ceremony also awarded the song of the year, which went to “Flowers”, by Miley Cyrus. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the North American magazine’s main music chart, starting with its debut week on the chart.

“Flowers” ​​was also crowned Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards this year.
